Educating the educators: Let's get started!

Preamble:
This is a one-day course that will take place in the first day of the RCPSC Simulation Summit. Center of Excellence for Simulation Education and Innovation (CESEI) at the University of BC will host the course. Participants registered for the International Conference on Residency Education (ICRE) can also register for this course at no additional charge. Registration in the main event is a requirement for participation in this course. Course registration is limited to 130 people and is on a first come first serve basis. Participants will be awarded ? CME Credits.

Audience:
This practical, hands-on course is designed for undergraduate, postgraduate, nursing and allied professionals, administrators and instructors how are new in the field of simulation.

Learning Objectives:
In the end of this course the learners will:
• Recognize the specifics of curriculum development and curriculum dissemination using simulation technology such as Non-technical skills Debriefing skills, evaluation and others.
• Explain with the concept of simulation from the education psychology prospective.
• Understand the complexity of the simulation environment and components of simulation program.
• Articulate the role of the simulation in the culture of health education.
• Demonstrate and teach specific skills.

Course Description:

The course consists of 3 lectures, 1 panel discussion and 13 hands-on modules. Each hands-on module is designed to maximize learners’ knowledge and hands-on use of simulation technology. Learners will attend all 3 lectures and panel discussion and, also, will be expected to pre-register for 2 of the 13 hands-on modules. Registration is set at a maximum of 20 learners per module (10 per session).

Evaluation:
Summative evaluation will include:
25 Pre course Multiple-Choice self-assessment questions – This portion of the test will be taken by the learners at home before online course materials are released to them for the course.
25 Post course Multiple-Choice self-assessment questions - This portion of the test will be taken by the learners in the end of the day.

Formative evaluation of the course will be completed at the end of the course by filling the blanks in a forum that will be delivered to them in the end of the course.
